Bachelor of Music in Music Education (BME)

The Adrian College Music Department offers comprehensive degree programs fully certified by the state of Michigan and aligned with the standards set by the National Association of Schools of Music (NASM).

Below is an outline of required music courses for the Bachelor of Music in Music Education. The courses are laid out in the recommended sequence of instruction from freshman through senior year.  In addition to the courses listed below, students must also take general studies courses and courses in teacher education. It is recommended that a music education major have an advisor in the music department and also meet once a semester with a teacher education faculty member in order to confirm their specific sequence of classes.

The BME is an intensive degree program that balances musical training with a thorough preparation for teaching music in the K-12 public school system. This is a four year degree program that provides ample hands-on experience through public school classroom observation, field work and student teaching.
