David Day, trombone

Trombonist Dave Day joined the Adrian College faculty in the fall of 2009. Dave comes to Michigan most recently from North Carolina, where he served on the faculty of Winston-Salem State University teaching low brass, music theory, and music appreciation. While in Winston-Salem, Dave attended the University of North Carolina School of the Arts, earning a Professional Artist’s Certificate while studying with James Miller. At the same time, he served on the brass faculty of Augusta State University (GA) teaching horn, trombone, euphonium, and tuba. He currently performs as principal trombonist with the Adrian Symphony Orchestra, and has performed with the Charleston (SC) Symphony and regularly with the Greensboro (NC) Symphony. Dave is also very comfortable playing in pit orchestras, having spent his last summer performing on both tenor and bass trombone with the Ohio Light Opera Orchestra of Wooster, OH.  Prior to that, he spent two summers on the counseling staff of the Performing Arts Institute of Wyoming Seminary (PA). As a student, Dave spent several summers at Le Domaine Forget in St. Irenee, QC and at the Sewanee Summer Music Festival in Sewanee, TN. Dave holds degrees from Virginia Tech and the University of South Carolina, and his primary teachers include Michael Wheeler, Jay Crone, Brad Edwards, and Ron Davis.
