Q: What is the difference between a
Bachelor of Arts degree (BA) and a Bachelor of Music degree (BM)?
A: The Bachelor of Arts degree is a
liberal arts degree in music encompassing a wider scope of general
studies and usually coupled with a second major in another area of
interest. The Bachelor of Music in
Performance is a more intensely focused degree requiring a second
audition at the end of the sophomore year (sophomore barrier). The
BM student is expected to reflect the very highest levels of
performance achievement at all times. This degree is usually coupled
with a minor in another field. The Bachelor of
Music in Music Education is a very intense degree with many
required courses in both music and education. The BME student
usually does not have room in the schedule to add a second degree.
Q: Does the Bachelor of Music Education
degree allow me to teach in any state?
A: Every state certification process is slightly different, but with
the BME degree, you can easily become certified to teach in any
state of your choice.

set out for the music audition.
